DunDev 2023 - Our First DunDev
Competitively selected Tranzfuser alumni independent game development studios came to Dundee from across the UK for DunDev, the four week residential hot housing project that would see a bespoke programme of events, interventions and individual packages of support all geared up to accelerate entrepreneurial growth.
The DunDev Studios
With accommodation of a high standard provided, modern shared office space in a central location as well as access to one-to-one consultancy slots, all studios that were accepted on to the programme had the facilities to ensure the best outcome possible from the residential.
Each of the four weeks of DunDev was designed to focus on specific aspects of games development as a commercial enterprise:
The DunDev studios engaged with experts across the fields of publishing, investment, technical expertise, community management as well as having the time and space to work in a dedicated and professional environment on their games.
As well as having the opportunity to sit down and engage with external advisers on various aspects of running a successful indie dev studio, the DunDev teams were invited to take part in two outward-facing events.
In week 3, local Dundee game dev companies and contacts were invited to a showcase event; the DunDev studios took their games along to the McManus Galleries in the center of the city and welcomed over 60 guests to the event, gaining from the exposure that such an event offers as well as connecting with developers based in and around Dundee.
The final week of DunDev saw the studios pitch their games and studios to a select panel of publishers, all sharing the virtual floorspace for an equal amount of time before jumping off into private meetings with the interested third parties.
Both of these events proved to be invaluable to the studios, giving them the experience and confidence to build on their learnings from the hot housing phase as they take the next steps towards commercial growth with their businesses.
Each studio successfully pitched to the UK Games Fund for grant support of up to £25,000.
